As we welcome the month of August, I realize it’s time for this website to settle down, stake its claim, and defend its territory. The last four months have been a very slow, steady learning curve for me as I’ve guided this blog from nothing to a modest success, but it’s now time to get into gear for the Fall 2008 season. I’m proud to announce this site now features a renewed purpose that I hope will make it infinitely more rewarding to read and enjoy.
The Mission
As I’ve written about a variety of topics ranging from psychology conferences to iPhone interfaces, I’ve realized that one particular area has been more rewarding to me than any other: writing about the new and exciting technology and social media sites and services that appear, grow, and evolve almost every single day. However, the overwhelming number of new gizmos and gadgets can easily get to be too much without a semi-conservative take on the Internet’s evolution; it’s important not to let things get out of hand.
In order to encompass the ideals expressed above, I’m proud to announce the refined aim of andydesoto.com:
This website seeks to introduce individuals to new Internet and social media technologies, assist existing users in integrating these technologies into their lives more fully, and comment on usability, practicality, and accessibility in the digital age.
In more practical terms, this will narrow the focus of the site while still keeping the playing field relatively open for both informational and opinion pieces.
The Audience
With an greater emphasis on aim comes a reaffirmation of the target audience I hope to engage on this site. I primarily write for individuals that:
- are eager to discover new things
- want to be distracted
- have questions to be answered
- wish to participate
- wonder, “How does Internet and social media technology apply to me and the larger world?”
The Means
In order to accomplish these goals, I am establishing an editorial calendar which I have chosen to keep behind the scenes at this point. Although a few of the specifics are still on the drawing board, you can expect to encounter at least one weekly article centered around the individually emphasized terms above: introduce, assist, and comment.
The Starting Line: 2008 Recap
A la established bloggers’ regular recapitulations, I wanted to provide some basic information about this website’s statistics to provide a baseline for the growth I hope it will find over the course of the Fall.
